You may have heard in the news that Traidcraft will be ceasing trading at the end of the year so this will be their last catalogue. This is sad news as Traidcraft have been pioneers in the field. Their closure will have a devastating effect on their producers and Traidcraft are doing all they can to support them and to help them find new organisations to trade with. It will also have an effect on the UK employees of Traidcraft so do keep them in your prayers at this unsettling time. They ask that we do our best to have a really good final season so that they are not left with stock and so that they can cover all their financial needs. If you are a long-term fan of Traidcraft you can drop them a line on firstname.lastname@example.org.
At The Vine we will continue to be a supplier of fairtrade food and craft and will source these things elsewhere in the New Year. For now we have a range of Traidcraft items including handcrafted pieces form the new catalogue. We are also happy to take orders for items from the new catalogue that we don't have in stock. There are some beautiful new lines as well as variations on old favourites so come in and take a look.
The charity arm of Traidcraft, Traidcraft Exchange, however will continue. They work in developing countries helping people trade their way out of poverty by educating, teaching better business and farming skills, encouraging producers to form cooperatives and providing health care. They are also involved in campaigning to get a better deal for those who produce our food and drink overseas. To find out more about their work and their latest campaign “Who picked my tea” at www.traidcraft.org.uk.
