Become a Friend of The Vine

The Vine Christian Book and Coffee shop is a charity and was established since September 2001.

In recent years many Christian Bookshops have been forced to close their doors. We are very grateful for God’s blessing on our ministry at The Vine and feel that it is important to continue to be a “bricks and mortar” Christian Bookshop, providing Bibles, Christian literature, cards, gifts and music to the community. We also stock church supplies such as communion wine and wafers, baptismal candles and Sunday School material.

As well as a bookshop we are a coffee shop, providing quality food and drinks at good value to the wider community, creating a friendly space for those who need some company to come to. We have a regular "Knit & Natter" group and a craft group that meet on the premises. We are also there for other groups who wish to meet at The Vine for prayer and support.

We take part in the annual AlterNativity event, which generates meal vouchers that are then distributed to the homeless and those in need so that they can come to The Vine for a free hot meal.

The Vine has a paid manager and assistant manager but relies on volunteers for the day to day running – particularly of the coffee shop. We are always in need of new volunteers who would like to be a part of our friendly team – serving customers and being a listening ear when needed.

There are many expenses that we have to cover including rent, bills, salaries, equipment as well as purchasing stock.

We appreciate all our regular customers who come in to make purchases and who stop for food and drink.

Since the early days of The Vine a number of local Christians have supported our work by being a “Friend of The Vine”, making regular donations of £5.00 a month or more. This helps us so much and it is great to know that some of our overheads are covered.

In return, Friends of The Vine receive a monthly news-sheet, written alternately by the manager and the head trustee, up-dating them on news from The Vine or with a reflection.

As a thank you for their support Friends also receive two vouchers for a free hot drink and a 10% voucher off any book or gift each month.
