As we approach the start of a New Year people often start thinking about what resolutions they might make. One suggestion for Christians is to commit to a daily devotional time or to start a new pattern of study. Whether this would mean making some changes to your routine or whether you are just looking for some new material to aid your quiet time we have a number of titles to help you.
If you fancy the challenge of reading the whole Bible in a year, Nicky Gumble has recently released his full commentary on this. Broken down into daily sections to match the daily readings, he comments on each passage and draws them together under a unifying theme.
If you are looking for something shorter as a focus for each day Bear Grylls has written an excellent devotional book called "Soul Fuel". This is a year's worth of daily reflections but they are not dated so could be dipped into as and when.
Each day has a thought or reflection and a Bible verse or short passage. Another great year long devotional book is Catherine Campbell's award winning "Journey with me", which won Christian book of the year. This is designed to be used alongside a Bible and gives a short passage to look up with a reflection and short prayer for each day of the year. A new title is "Bible & Breakfast" - a lovely book designed to help you fit a Bible study into your daily routine - i.e. while you each breakfast. There are
31 studies but each one offers a shorter 'snack' or a deeper 'feast' depending on the time you have. There is room for journalling within the pages and the book also includes 31 gorgeous breakfast recipes with full colour pictures. This is a book that could be used daily over a couple of months but then returned to again and again. There are many other titles of a similar nature available in The Vine and of course we also stock dated daily reading notes such as Every Day with Jesus, Guidelines, Daily Bread and many others. Do come in for a browse and find something to inspire you.
